Mon Dancing Tradition

Mon Dancing Tradition

Mon Dancing Tradition is one of Mon traditional arts continued over the time up until now. The later generations of Mon have inherited this art all along well, particularly at Koh Kred in Pak Kred, there are a bunch of people who could perform Mon dancing, together with various bands of Mon traditional orchestra played in support of the dancing as well. Sub-District Administrative Organization therefore organizes traditional Mon dancing performance at Koh Kred, in front of Sao Thong Thong Temple, for tourists every weekend. Mon people call Mon dancing as “Pua-Ha Pern”. It is usually performed at both happy and sad events, as well as funeral ceremony. Particularly at the funeral ceremony for a monk, people usually perform the dancing in front of coffin as they believe it could bring him a good merit, as well as at the funeral ceremony of senior people and respected people of the community.
